Official Pine opinion: Goblin Cock way better than Pinback, we think

It's not that we hate Pinback. We don't, we promise. We just really dropped off after the self-titled album, and even that brings to mind memories best forgotten. Plus Pinback, at least to us, wasn't even up to par with Heavy Vegetable, another group fronted by Pinback's Rob Crow that was sorta similar to Pinback though, in our opinion, better. We weren't the biggest Thingy fans but appreciate it for what it was. Like Heavy Vegetable, Thingy was also led by Crow, with a sound that was somewhat similar throughout all three.

Sure, when Pinback first emerged, we loved it. We were all up on it. But then the trouble started with the group's second release, Blue Screen Life. It just seemed more of the same thing started with that first full-length, even though it sorta lost the charm. Think Arcade Fire's Funeral vs. Neon Bible. It takes the style a little farther, tries out a few new approaches but really, at the end of the day, the album adds nothing new to the conversation. Same with the Pinback albums.

Anyway, Crow's new band, Goblin Cock, is an entirely different thing, with the only real similarity to Pinback being Crow's voice. It's sorta sludgey stoner rock but it works. We really think it does.

We know there's a good chance none of this may even make sense to you. Call us crazy and say we don't get it. Maybe we don't. But we get to have our opinions, right? And you get yours by watching the Goblin Cock video below!
